Image Analysis Software analySIS FIVE : Features (1)

Olympus, one of the world's leading microscope manufacturers, now offers a long-awaited image analysis software program to be used with a microscope and a digital camera. The analySIS FIVE allows images to be processed, measured and analyzed using a personal computer in diverse, sophisticated ways. With the software functions designed to bring the best performance out of hardware, it will increase the efficiency in microscopy and enhance your competitiveness in business.
The analySIS FIVE comes in five types: "ruler," "imager," "docu," "auto" and "pro."
Each type can be optimally customized by adding the functions that you want to use.

1. Camera and microscope control

This allows controls of a digital camera and microscope from the software. A series of processes from observation to report creation can be complete on a PC.
* Only the microscopes from Olympus and their dedicated cameras are supported. Controllable functions depend on the microscope and camera in use.

Microscope control

2. Measurement

All mesurements offer a wide range of definable measurement parameters. The measurement results appear immediately in the "Measurements" tab of the Image Manger.

Measurement

3. Database

The database offers management of image files, sheets, diagrams, reports and other user-friendly files. Some of the attractive features this database offers include its tremendous flexibility, ease of use and quick access to data.

Database

4. Report function

The report generator is template-based and offers a broad range of options for convenient and fast creation and management of reports and images.

Report function

5. Image montaging

This allows an automatic montage of a set of individual images into one combined image. The resulting image has the same resolution as the individual images but is larger.

MIA Multiple Images Alignment

6. Particle analysis

The analysis functions permit easy, fast and flexible evaluation of images.
The particle detection function is powerful and can be used with both black/white and color images.

Particle Analysis

7. Expanded focus imaging function

A number of images are recorded, each one with a different focus setting.
The parts of each image that are in focus are extracted and combined into a single, focused image.

EFI Extened focal image

8. 3-D image

Using height and texture information, the 3-D image functions available in the analySIS Five calculate, visualize and animate realistic-looking three-dimensional views.

3D Image

Other add-in software programs for specific analysis tasks are available (casting analysis, particle size analysis, film thickness measurement, etc.).

Grain Sizing — Intercept Method

Analyzing grain size using the intercept method is done via application of all standard line-intercept patterns. Horizontal, vertical, diagonal, circular and combined line configurations are supported. Grain size is determined according to accepted national and international norms. The basis for determining grain size is the mean intercept length. Light or dark borders are detected for individual grain phases. Stepped grain borders are detected for multi-phase materials.

  • Automatic or interactive
  • Compatible with Standards: DIN 50601, JIS G 0552, ASTM E 112
  • No boundary reconstruction necessary

Grain Sizing — Planimetric Method

The planimetric measurement method determines grain size via the area of the grains. For automatic analysis, grain boundaries must be continuous – i.e. unbroken. To ensure that boundaries are continuous, the planimetric method includes a high performance algorithm for reconstruction of grain boundaries. The planimetric method allows the user to conduct analyses that go beyond the usual level of standard analysis: e.g. bimodal g-values, g-values of sandwich layers, g-value histograms, elongation.

  • 2-step process:1. Grain boundary reconstruction 2. Area measurement
  • Compatible with Standards: DIN 50601, JIS G 0552, ASTM E 112

Cast Iron analySIS

Cast iron is evaluated either automatically or manually. Each graphite particle is automatically detected and evaluated with regard to shape and size. Sheets and diagrams show size and shape distribution results. Classifications according to various national and international standards such as VDG, EN ISO 945 or ASTM are integrated.

  • Classifies with respect to shape, size
  • Determines area fraction of graphite in %
  • Nodular, dendritic and flake graphite particles
  • Standards EN ISO 945, ASTM E247, JIS G 5502, GB 9441-88
  • Graphite-corrected phase analysis of ferrite and pearlite

Particle Detection

Use the analytical functions to quantitatively detect and analyze thousands of image objects within seconds. Particle detection supports the analysis of multi-phase objects. For example, when porous material is being examined, both voids and grains can be inspected and classified simultaneously.

  • Threshold-based particle detection
  • More than 80 different particle parameters
  • Discrimination and filtering using any of the parameters
Particle Detection
Area Particle oriental Diameter MAX
The area of a particle is [number of pixels of the particle] times [calibration factors in X and Y direction]. The orientation of a particle is the angle between the line corresponding to the maximum moment of the cloud of scaled points describing the particle and the X-axis. The maximum distance of parallel tangents at opposing particle borders.
